Haiti Communitere Country Director

About the Role

Reporting directly to our Haitian Board of Directors, the Country Director holds overall organizational responsibility for strategic direction, HC program development, community partnerships, future growth and execution of the mission and vision of HC.  A strong personality, resiliency and a commitment to personal convictions are essential and the ability to stand up to strong personalities is essential.   

Experience

Haiti is vibrant and exciting, yet complex and often misunderstood; the ability to navigate a multitude of culturally dynamic and sensitive situations is essential.  Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of innovation and success working within the international aid and development community at the grassroots level.  Fluency in English is required, and the ability to communicate in Haitian Creole (or French) is desired.   

Responsibilities of Country Director Role

  • Leadership & Management
    • Ensure overall functioning of HC operations, including program implementation and evaluation, financial solvency, and administrative effectiveness
    • Actively engage community partners and potential collaborators
    • Continue to develop and implement a board activation plan
    • Lead, mentor and develop other members of management team
    • Ensure effective operational systems with Operations Director for efficient functioning of the base
    • Monitor and evaluate processes and progress of community based and international partnerships 
  • Revenue Generation & Communication
    • Identify potential revenue streams and create a plan to attract additional revenue in conference with the Operations Director
    • Increase fundraising activities to support existing program operations as well as program expansions
    • Deepen and refine all aspects of communication & marketing  – from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger HC and Communitere brand
    • Facilitate regular and fluid communication with the Chair of the local Board of Directors, as well as the Communitere International Executive Director, and the International Advisory Committee 
  • Planning & Community Building
    • Create a strategic plan for HC to effectively move into a focus of RENEWAL
    • Engage in active outreach in order to maintain current relationships, as well as to expand our community of partnerships
    • Foster the spirit of community by sharing knowledge, and promoting collaboration
    • Work closely with the Director of Operations to implement systems & protocols for the smooth functioning of the base
    • Create a system of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E); working closely with the Operations Directors in order to measure HC’s impact
    • Be an ambassador for HC within local and international; required to attend local and international events

Personal Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a dynamic team
  • Proactive and able to operate with a high degree of autonomy
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated cultural awareness
  • Ability to produce concise, yet informative written reports – at times on short notice with a quick turn around
  • Experience managing budgets and producing financial reports on a regular basis
  • Project management experience in complex environments with various stakeholders
  • IT and computer skills
  • Experience working with CBOs, NGOs, INGOs, and government a plus
  • Experience with Quick Books a plus
